
The Mud School - Originally created by the 'Cucumber Guild,' this area is very linear and an easy way to pick up some quick XP at level 1, and learn a little about how RO works. Also, a good place to pick up a quick newbie weapon. Directions: 2n,1u from Mkt Sq
The Midgaard Zoo - This area has rather easy XP for levels 1-10. Each row south of creatures is tougher than the previous one. Created for either Diku or RO1, the XP here is not up to date with the other areas for new players. However, it is a good place to practice kick on rabbits. Directions: 3s from Mkt Sq
The Carnival - Created by RO's first two implementors (Brett and Darokin) in 1990, this area is an easy place to pick up some quick XP for levels 1 thru 10. It is a favorite of higher level players for its summonable mobs that can be used as astral points for the more difficult areas of RO. Directions: 4w,3n,1w from Mkt Sq
The Ivory Tower/Chess Board - This area is for Levels 1-10 and contains several items useful to new players. The most famous denizen of this area is the easily charmable Sisyphus. Many level 20+ mages can be seen running around RO with Sisyphus to tank the mobs they couldn't face without a good sized tank. Directions: 1s,5w,1u from Mkt Sq
The Giant Ant Hill - Created by ex-implementor Elvis for either RO1 or RO2, this is easily the best area for new players who are just a little brave. Worker Ants are amazingly great XP for levels 1-5 and the Anteater (if you can get him) is sweet XP for levels 2-5. The Black Ant Hill is great XP at levels 4-6 and the Red Ant Hill can provide much needed XP for levels 6-10. Directions: 4w,3n,1e,1n from Mkt Sq
Dungeon Keeper - Created by Valor for RO3, this area is designed for levels 1-15. The imps on the upper level are easily the best xp in the game for a level 1 player. As you go down in the zone it gets increasingly more difficult. While the upper level with the Imps is great for any new player, only brave players should consider going down into the lower levels of the Dungeon Keeper. Directions: 4w,3n,2e,5n from Mkt Sq
The Evil Dead 1 - This area, created by Lotus for RO3, is for the experienced RO player who doesnt want to sit around wait for the Anthill to repop. Newer players should be wary as this area is full of aggressive monsters. However, the XP here may be worth the danger. This area also contains two pieces of extremely good EQ for a low level player. The first half of this area, the Cabin, is designed for levels 1-5. The second half, the Woods behind the Cabin, is for levels 6-15 and is extremely dangerous. Please note that there are no paths back to Midagaard from this area. Be sure to buy some scrolls of recall from Zifnab before venturing in. Directions: 5w,2n,1w from Mkt Sq
The Quicklings Area - Created for Diku or RO1, this area is designed for levels 5-15. The Shortsword of Speed can be found here. Directions: 7w,2s,1e,1s,2e from Mkt Sq
The Shire - Master Gamgee, the Miller and others offer level 5-20 players excellent XP and a few pieces of valuable EQ. Shirriffs, mill workers and bumpkins are among the easier targets here. The Thain, Battlemaster, Dwarven Warrior, and Elven Prince offer a challenge to players, as well as nice XP. The area under Bag End offers up plenty of XP, but bring your lantern. Castle Python - This RO1 area, for levels 5-30, is a favorite of Rangers. It has some EQ and good XP. There are several larger mobs that provide excellent XP. The dungeons and the Giant Mutant Smurf should offer lots of fun for the 20+ crowd. Direction: 6e,1s,2e,3s from Mkt Sq
Forrest Landing Mall - The Mall is designed for level 10-20 players. The XP here is located on just a few mobs, but they are worth the effort at level 10. More importantly, Glinting Rings of Silver and Opal Bracelets can be bought here. Directions: 5w,6s,1e from Mkt Sq
Troy - Meet Achilles and his army as they prepare to do battle with the Trojans. This are, created by Adonis, Sturm and Martin for RO1, is for levels 10-20. However, there are some dangerous foes like Achilles that can only be defeated by an experienced group of 50s. The XP here is kind of difficult for levels 10, but at 15, you can get some decent EQ here. Directions: 6e,2u,3n,5w,1s,2w,2n,1w,4s from Mkt Sq
The Ghost Pirate Ship - Built by Calaron, this area has excellent XP for levels 10-20. This area has one of the oldest deathtraps in RO. Directions: Eastern New Thalos
The Gelflings/Skexies - Inspired by the Dark Crystal film, this Rugrat-built area offers really great XP and EQ for levels 10-30. The Skexies offer more challenge, as well as better XP and EQ, than the Gelfings. You will need a boat or the ability to fly to get there and a scroll of recall to get back to Midgaard. The City Of New Thalos - A city filled with XP, potions, EQ, etc. The shops are nice, and the Ghost Pirate Ship has really nice XP. This area, for levels 10-20, was created by Conner for RO1. Directions: 13e,1n,2e from Mkt Sq
Malacca City and Desert - This is an old area created by DragonLord for RO1. There is a newer desert by Winter located outside the eastern gate with sand trolls and other mobs. It offers great XP for levels 15-25, and much needed EQ for a lot of level 20s. The XP and EQ in this area have gotten a much needed boost for RO4. Graecia - Created by Grambreezi for RO1, this area offers much needed XP for levels 15-30. Watch out for those sneaky Assassins. The Graecian Ocean,also created by Grambreezi, is located here. The Ocean is for levels 15-30 and provides great XP and EQ for the low level player. Directions: 6e,2u from Mkt Sq
The Evil Dead 2 - This area, also created by Lotus for RO3, is for levels 15-25. It has excellent XP and a great item in it. There is an Extension under the Evil Dead 2 Cabin, a set of Tunnels. The tunnels are for a good group of experienced 50s and contain a deadly infestation of Evil Deadite Rats. There are also 2 very powerful creatures living down in the tunnels. So be careful! Bring scrolls of recall as they are no exits to Midgaard. Directions: Past the Woods behind the Evil Dead 1 Cabin.
Deadly Creatures Exhibit - Created for levels 20-30, this area has a great potion hidden on one of the creatures, that makes it a place worth visiting. The XP is reasonable. Directions: 6s,4w from Mkt Sq
The Dark Swamp - Originally built by Entreri, this area was revamped by Winter. It is designed for groups of levels 15 - 35's, but there are some harder mobs that would require a bit more work. Look for priests, cutthroats, bugbears, bloodworms and a few other surprises. There is rumored to be a demon prince that would require a well organized group of 50's. You'll need to fly or boat to get here and perhaps a recall scroll to get home. Directions: 1s,2e,2s,11w,2s,1e from Mkt Sq
Orshigal - The home of the Enfans, this area has always been a good source of XP for levels 20-30. Directions: 13w,3n,2w from Mkt Sq
Thranduil's Palace - The palace of Thranduil, King of the Wood Elves, and the surrounding woods. Inspired by Tolkien's creation from Middle Earth, this area provides decent EQ and XP for levels 10-15. Thranduil, himself, will provide a challenge for a group of 50's. Dwarven Village - The dwarven village is due for a revamp, having been a part of RO since at least 1993. The little mining workers in here are pretty good XP for 5-10 level characters, if you can manage them. Directions: ???
The Town of Adakair - Adakair is a quaint little town east of Midgaard. The town guards are pretty easy, but there's a pretty nasty little necromancer hiding in the cemetery. Directions: 8e,1n of Mkt Sq
Tar Valon - The area of Tar Valon is based on Robert Jordan's Eye of the World series. The novices and trainee warders are among the best XP and gold for low-level players around. Directions: Due south of the Cathedral Sq in Cimmura
The Labors Of Hercules - This area, based on mythological Greek hero Hercules, is targeted at low-level players. Not much to see here, a hydra, some amazons. Directions: 6e,2u,5n,3w of Mkt Sq
Isengard - Isengard is another zone based on Tolkien's Middle Earth. The orcs and dunnish warriors are excellent sources of XP for characters around 10th level or so. Some of the big mobs are even a challenge for groups of 50's. Directions: 6e,11s,w,n,2e,n from Mkt Sq
The Grotto - The Grotto is a veritable playground for polymorphed mages and befriending rangers, with salamanders and heroes to do your bidding. This is an excellent area for mid-level players Directions: 1s,2e,2s,all west from Mkt Sq.
Old Thalos - The city of Old Thalos is located in the Great Eastern Desert to the South of New Thalos. Inhabited by lots of lamias and a few beholders, this area is for mid-level players. Directions: 13e,n,7e,10s,6w,2s,1w of Mkt Sq
Camelot
- Camelot is the home of the legendary King Arthur and his knights.
The Castle Watchmen make decent pets for mid-levelers, and Launcelot
has some pretty
good gear for the higher-level folks.

Mordilnia - Mordilnia is a nice little town chock full of excellent mid-level XP mobs. Directions: 5w,all s,1w,3s of Mkt Sq
Castle Hess - Castle Hess is a small Scottish village and castle located off of the Great Road. It was designed by Makihrin for RO3; the junior watchmen in the castle make excellent mid-level pets, and the villagers and such are good for the low-levelers to pick on. Vern - This is Brax's first area, designed for levels 5-30, and higher to kill some of the bosses. The fort is for lower levels, while the mountain is for higher. Some interesting mobs and EQ can be found in the forest to the east. Directions: 13e,1n,7e,12n,10e,1n of Mkt Sq
Paranor - This area, based on Terry Brooks' Shanara world, is the home of druids, led by Allanon. The students and librarians are good sources of XP for 20-30th level characters, but watch out for the mystics. Directions: 6e,1n,1w of Mkt Sq
Castle Dredd - The distant lands of Castle Dredd are far from Midgaard, along the Silver River. This area has many Mid-to-High level mobs hanging about the castle. Directions: 6e,2n,1e,6n,3w,1s,3w,2n
Bandit Camp - The bandit camp is a good place for low-level adventurers, just past the newbie stage, to go for XP. Characters from levels 10-15 should do fairly well here, as long as they're careful. Directions: 4e,3n,2w,2n,1u,2n from Mkt Sq
Mal Ador - The town and swamps of Mal Ador sit far to the west of Midgaard. The inhabitants include ogres/swamp crawlers (good pets) in the swamplands and guards/students in the town. Some say that there's a ghost in the big tower in the east. Directions: 13w,1s,2w,2s,1w,1s,3w,1n,1w,4n from Mkt Sq
Erebor - Erebor, the Lonely Mountain from Tolkien's Hobbit, is the home of many dwarves, some of whom are very very tough, some of whom are not so tough. Battle Trained Guardsmen are tough XP for higher level characters, but they're rich; the royal family of dwarves has some great EQ, but are quite nasty to deal with. Dol Guldur - The Dark Tower of Dol Guldur is a place full of mid-level evil orcs and trolls for the good-aligned to practice their vanquishing upon. High-level challenges await further in the tower. Directions: 6e,5s,2e,3n,2e,1s,3e,3s,3e from Mkt Sq
Narnia - Narnia is based on C.S. Lewis' Chronicles of Narnia, complete with Peter, Susan, Edmund, Lucy, and, of course, Aslan. The woodland creatures are ok XP for mid-level characters, the wolves are good for higher-level people. Castle Narnia, with the White Witch, is good XP for a couple of 50's. Olympus - Olympus is where the Greek Pantheon calls home these days. Zeus, Ares, Apollo, they're all here. They have some decent pieces of gear for a group of upper-level characters. Directions: 6e,2u,3n,4e,2n,1e,1n,2e,1s,1e from Mkt Sq
Cimmura - Cimmura is a city based on David Eddings' Belgariad series. This area consists of palace guards and church knights to challenge 25-40 level characters, with a few decent pieces of EQ thrown in for good measure. Directions: 13e,1n,7e,12n,13e,1n,9e from Mkt Sq
Fire Giants - There are salamanders for mid-levels and fire giant patrols for higher-level XP. The fire giant King offers up level 50 XP, as well as nice EQ. Directions: 6e,2n,1e,1n,1e,1d from Mkt Sq
Sea Elves - This area is one of the earliest in RO's history. Fierce Sea-Elf guards and were-dolphins haunt these underwater hallways. This is also where the famed Armlet of the Gods can be found. Directions: 6e,2u,3n,4w,2n,1w,2n from Mkt Sq
Paladins - A staple of evil characters everywhere, this area offers good XP and alignment-fixing for evil folk. The paladins are fairly high level, so be cautious. Directions: 3e,1n,1e from Mkt Sq
Lothlorien - Lothlorien is full of fun… there are Galadriel and Celeborn for high-level EQ seekers and the under-the-tree area with plenty of Deep Elves that pack plenty of XP for the mid-high level player. Directions: 6e,11s,1e,1n,1w,4n,1e,1s from Mkt Sq
Cthulhu - The area housing the greater god Cthulhu is far from town, and with good reason - he's a nasty, nasty fellow. He gets killed for his excellent shield and tentacle. Directions: 13w,1s,2w,2s,1w,1s,3w,1n,1w,1s from Mkt Sq
Oriental Palace - One of the few pure XP and money zones on RO. Plenty of noblemen and statues to be harvested, but be on the watch for those daimyos. Directions: 13e,1n,7e,12n,6e,14n from Mkt Sq
Xanth - The mystical world of Xanth is located on the other side of a long weird boat ride. Xanth is based on the world of Xanth by author Piers Anthony, and contains some excellent pieces of gear in addition to being a good source of high-level XP. Directions: 1s,3e,1s,1e,3s from Mkt Sq
Antipaladins - Just as the Paladins area is an excellent source of XP for evil characters, this area is a great place for good-aligned characters to both improve their alignment, and gain lots of XP. Be especially careful in the lower labyrinth. Directions: 1s,2e,2s,9w,1n,1w,1d from Mkt Sq
Merida - The desert and stronghold of Merida are located off the eastern desert, south of New Thalos. The desert is full of aggressive high-XP wandering mobs, whereas the stronghold is safer XP and decent EQ. Directions: 13e,1n,7e,12s,1e from Mkt Sq
Taerg - Taerg is an interesting area located near the Oriental Palace. There is a small city and an evil, nasty forest. Great XP and great danger are to be found here. Directions: 13e,1n,7e,12n,6e,10n,1w,3n from Mkt Sq
Temple of the Dragon - This is Brax's second area. Far east of Cimmura lies the Temple of the Dragon, where young men go to embrace the Path of the Dragon, and hone their mind and body. This area is for a group of experienced 50s.
Abandoned Cathedral - The Abandoned Cathedral (Vamps, as it is more commonly known) is an area for high-level players. There is a dark forest full of wolves for decent XP. The cathedral is populated by big nasty vampires that have excellent XP and EQ. Directions: 1s,2e,2s,all e,1n,11e,1s from Mkt Sq
Frostbitten Kingdom - FK is one of the best XP areas around. The pool, wolves, yetis, and the castle - there is probably more total XP in this area than any other. The entrance to FK is 9e, n, 2e, n, w of Market Square. Directions: 9e,1n,2e,1n,1w from Mkt Sq
Dragon Council - The Dragon Council is a high-level EQ-intensive zone located somewhere between Midgaard and the Gypsy Village. It houses the ruling council of the race of Dragons, and as such, is not to be taken lightly.
Saughins - Saughins are fierce underwater-dwelling creatures that inhabit one of the toughest areas on RO. Some incredible EQ guarded by some incredibly tough mobs. Seek out the Sea Elves if you wish to find the Saughins.
The Glass Moon - GM is located near the Abyss, far to the west of Midgaard. It is one of two zones created by Sinister, and for those familiar with RO, it is no surprise that his two zones are basically the two toughest on the mud. Good luck.
Lyfantas - The other area created by Sinister, located off the land of Xanth. While GM might be physically more demanding than Lyfantas, Sinister's first effort remains one of the trickiest areas on RO.
The Old Forest - The Old Forest is a new area created by Dariux. It is his first area, designed for 50s with a zest for dangerous XP and a need to kill Evil trees. This area is located in the Shire. Old Man Willow resides over the area and he doesn't take kindly to those who enter his forest.
The Light Forest - This is the third area created by Lotus; a continuation of the Evil Dead theme. The portal outside the ED2 cabin, lands you in this forest, with smurfs and other light hearted mobs and one Unseen Evil Force that we reckon no one wants to face. This area is for levels 30-50.
The Ancient Windmill - This is the 4th area created by Lotus and is located on the edge of The Light Forest. The Windmill is a dangerous place for extremely crafty 40s.
The Evil Dead Graveyard - This is the 5th area created by Lotus. Located out the Windmill's Exit, this area is literally a graveyard where bodies and skeletons have been dug up to help form an Army. Unforunately some of them are still hanging about! outside Arthur's Castle. The battle field is filled with Deadite Skeletons. You just have to get thru the Windmill. Although some say another route is available.
Great Swamp - A Swamp filled with pesky dragon flies and giant cat fish. A good place to go for XP but beware the Water Moccassins, these deadly snakes can give you fits. A Deadly Gator wanders the swamp as well so consider yourself warned! Lotus' 6th area. It can be found just outside some hills to the north of the Crossroad East of Midgaard.
Battle Field - This is Lotus' 7th area and most challenging. Located beyond the Graveyard, it is for only the most couragous of 50s. A plethora of XP can be found here, just beware the Sergeants who are there keeping their men in line.
Valley of the Dead - The 8th zone from Lotus and the first from Minsc. The two combined to create an area where a Valley of a Fallen Tribe of Vikings and Scotts can be found. A dangerous area said to be located near the Evil Dead Graveyard.
